Remember the Explosion on Route 9 in 1970?

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

By Carol Ann Berry
Contributor

This story is about my father, Richard Barker formally of 120 North Ave, Natick Mass.

When my parents were married they lost the house they were renting to own off of Route 9 in Natick, Mass there was a furniture store they were the owners of the house that blew up.

At the time of the explosion; the company that was hired to put tress in around the house were digging a trench and ended up hitting a gas line and knew it and started running the opposite direction.

My mom Janice around 21 to 22 at the time was pregnant and very sensitive to the gas that she smelled and ended up going out the front door saw the contractor running and yelled, "hey, I smell gas"; he must have felt guilty or didn't realize that anyone was home and saw that she was pregnant and told her to "get out of the house!"

She was going to go down the basement to get our family cat and realized that there isn't enough time; she grabbed me wrapped me up in a blanket and ran and ended up jumping over the huge trench and almost fell backwards...

just as she made it; the house blew from the basement about 30 feet in the air and the only thing that stood up to the explosion were the front door and the mail box.

Settlement Stolen From Richard Barket & Charles Prombain, ESQ.

The reason I am writing this is because no one seemed to have any answers for me while I was growing up as to why the attorney for my parents took off with the settlement money and no one did nothing about it? That is inexcusable!

I found the attorney down in Palm Beach Florida; unfortunately his wife answered the phone and said that he passed away. How can this have happened and no one did anything about it? I have been trying to find answers and can't seem to get anywhere.

I know that the statute of limitations has run out but I would like to know if my dad had part in this, and MAYBE hid the monies from the settlement and over time spent his share. He left my mom with kids and no where to go and he never paid child support and didn't care about us. We lived in the High Street projects and Egmont Street projects because we had no where to go.

If anyone remembers the story or has information please comment on this story. Thank you for your consideration in assisting me in any way that you can. This has been haunting me for years...

I know that one of my parents would have had to sign the settlement agreement and have to know that the attorney wasn't or shouldn't have been the one that was the payee... Please help me????

Uncomplicating Grief: Pathways to Hope and Healing

Riverside Trauma Center's 4th Annual Conference

Uncomplicating Grief:
Pathways to Hope and Healing

Cosponsored by the Massachusetts Department of
Public Health's Suicide Prevention Program

Early Bird Registration Deadline 8/8/14

Conference Description:
Grief is a normal part of life, but when loss is sudden or traumatic, many people need the help of behavioral health providers to cope with their intense pain and sadness. This year’s conference will focus on typical and complicated grief following sudden loss and trauma. We will apply first-person accounts, theory, and research so that attendees can better understand and support people on their journey through grief. The day will include a discussion of how cultural background influences the experience of grief and healing.

Keynote Address by George A. Bonanno, PhD:
"Beyond Resilience and PTSD: Flexibility and Heterogeneity Following Potential Trauma"

Highly aversive or potentially traumatic events (PTEs) are more common than is usually assumed. Indeed, most people are exposed to multiple PTEs during the course of their lives. Until recently, however, responses to such events have been understood using either psychopathological categories, such as PTSD, or measures of central tendency (e.g., average differences). George A Bonanno, PhD demonstrates that although both approaches have been useful, neither approach captures the true heterogeneity of responses to aversive events. Recent advances in latent trajectory modeling following such events have identified prototypical trajectories of outcome, including chronic dysfunction and a resilient trajectory of stable health (Bonanno, 2004). In this talk, he will describe studies from his research program that examine individual differences in response to demanding life events, including terrorist disaster, military combat, mass shooting, spinal cord injury, bio-epidemic, and cancer surgery. He will also describe research on predictors of the resilience trajectory and place special emphasis on recent research on various components of flexibility in coping and emotion regulation, resilience-promoting factors.

George A. Bonanno, PhD, is a Professor of Clinical Psychology and Director of the Loss, Trauma, and Emotion Lab at Columbia University’s Teachers College. Professor Bonanno’s interests center on the question of how human beings cope with loss, trauma, and other forms of extreme adversity, with an emphasis on resilience and the salutary role of flexible emotion regulatory processes. Professor Bonanno’s empirical and theoretical work has focused on defining and documenting resilience in the face of loss or potential traumatic events, including disaster, loss, terrorist attack, bio-epidemic, traumatic injury, and life-threatening injuries medical events, and on identifying the range of psychological and contextual variables that predict both psychopathological and resilient outcomes. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation, and featured in various print, television, and radio media. He recently authored The Other Side of Sadness: What the New Science of Bereavement Tells Us About Life After Loss (Basic Books).

Additional Presentations:

“Complicated Grief After Traumatic Loss: A Clinician’s Perspective"
John R. Jordan, PhD, is a Clinical Psychologist who has specialized in work with grief, bereavement, and survivors of suicide loss for more than 35 years. He is the Clinical Consultant for Grief Support Services of the Samaritans in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Professional Advisor to the Survivor Council of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). He is also an author, lecturer, and workshop facilitator.

"Creating Meaning from Sorrow: Pathways to Healing from
Suicide Loss"

Wishbone Ash

"The most interesting two-guitar team since the days when Beck and Page graced The Yardbirds." - Melody Maker. Wishbone Ash is considered to be one of the major innovators of the harmony twin lead guitar format. This distinction was validated by Traffic Magazine quoting the group as having "Two of the Ten Most Important Guitarists in Rock History" and Rolling Stone’s award as "Top 20 Guitarists of All Time."

Wishbone Ash embarked on the nascent Progressive Rock scene in 1969, taking full advantage of a fertile musical environment where they produced a distinctive brand of melodic rock. Inspired equally by British folk traditions and American jazz and R&B, the group played to public and critical acclaim.

More than 40 years later, having pioneered the use of twin lead guitars, Wishbone Ash has gained worldwide recognition, based firmly on a regime of relentless touring. Their latest studio release, Blue Horizon, continues to solidify their reputation as a musical force to be reckoned with.

The band includes founding member Andy Powell, who handles lead vocals and trades licks with Finland’s guitar wizard Muddy Manninen. Bassist Bob Skeat, a 17-year veteran of the band and in-demand studio musician, keeps the bottom rocking with Joe Crabtree, one of th best of Britain’s new breed of drummers whose performance credits include Pendragon and David Cross of King Crimson.

The brainchild of folk singers Kris Delmhorst, Jeffrey Foucault, and Peter Mulvey, Redbird is a real-time, unstaged love letter to the body of American song. Across a collaborative tour that started 10 years ago, the three discovered musical affinity and a shared love of a fairly diverse spectrum of Americana. Charlie Farren and Sarah Blacker

Charlie Farren has long been known for great songs, great singing, and for outstanding live solo acoustic performances. Alone onstage with acoustic guitar in hand, Charlie captures an audience with his unique delivery, insightful lyrics, memorable songs, soaring vocal, and subtle yet innovative guitar style. It wasn't always quite so subtle, as Charlie formed this original self-taught style with a history of successful, hard-crunching rock bands throughout the 1980s, including fronting the Joe Perry Project.

“Female Performer of the Year” in the New England Music Awards, Boston-based 2012 Boston Music Award nominee for Singer/Songwriter of the year, Sarah Blacker is also a current nominee for Songwriter of the Year, and Song of the Year for 2013's single, “Shiver,”  in the New England Music Awards.  Sarah was recently called “one of the brighter artists to grab our attention recently,” by No Depression magazine.  The Boston Herald called her, “Boston’s delightful folk nymph,” yet he also said of her, “Sarah Blacker makes some of the most interesting folk music in Boston — mostly by making folk the starting point and reaching out toward rock, Americana and prog.” She is a prolific singer/songwriter currently touring behind her 3rd album in just three years.

Violet Jam Presents: The Outlaws

For The Outlaws, it was always about the music. For 40 years, the Southern Rock legends celebrated triumphs, endured tragedies and survived legal nightmares to remain one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the genre. Now The Outlaws return with new music, new focus and an uncompromising new mission: It’s about a band of brothers bound together by history, harmony and the road. It’s about a group that respects its own legacy while refusing to be defined by its past. But most of all, it’s about pride.

It’s About Pride is the new album from The Outlaws, a record 4 years in the making and perhaps 20 or more in the waiting.  Formed in Tampa in 1972, The Outlaws – known for their triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies – became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis (at the urging of Ronnie Van Zant) to his then-fledgling Arista Records. The band’s first three albums The Outlaws, Lady In Waiting and Hurry Sundown – featuring such rock radio favorites as “There Goes Another Love Song”, “Green Grass & High Tides”, “Knoxville Girl” and “Freeborn Man” – would become worldwide gold and platinum landmarks of the Southern Rock era. Known as ‘The Florida Guitar Army’ by their fans, The Outlaws earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band as well as The Doobie Brothers, The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones.
