Remember the Explosion on Route 9 in 1970?

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

By Carol Ann Berry
Contributor

This story is about my father, Richard Barker formally of 120 North Ave, Natick Mass.

When my parents were married they lost the house they were renting to own off of Route 9 in Natick, Mass there was a furniture store they were the owners of the house that blew up.

At the time of the explosion; the company that was hired to put tress in around the house were digging a trench and ended up hitting a gas line and knew it and started running the opposite direction.

My mom Janice around 21 to 22 at the time was pregnant and very sensitive to the gas that she smelled and ended up going out the front door saw the contractor running and yelled, "hey, I smell gas"; he must have felt guilty or didn't realize that anyone was home and saw that she was pregnant and told her to "get out of the house!"

She was going to go down the basement to get our family cat and realized that there isn't enough time; she grabbed me wrapped me up in a blanket and ran and ended up jumping over the huge trench and almost fell backwards...

just as she made it; the house blew from the basement about 30 feet in the air and the only thing that stood up to the explosion were the front door and the mail box.

Settlement Stolen From Richard Barket & Charles Prombain, ESQ.

The reason I am writing this is because no one seemed to have any answers for me while I was growing up as to why the attorney for my parents took off with the settlement money and no one did nothing about it? That is inexcusable!

I found the attorney down in Palm Beach Florida; unfortunately his wife answered the phone and said that he passed away. How can this have happened and no one did anything about it? I have been trying to find answers and can't seem to get anywhere.

I know that the statute of limitations has run out but I would like to know if my dad had part in this, and MAYBE hid the monies from the settlement and over time spent his share. He left my mom with kids and no where to go and he never paid child support and didn't care about us. We lived in the High Street projects and Egmont Street projects because we had no where to go.

If anyone remembers the story or has information please comment on this story. Thank you for your consideration in assisting me in any way that you can. This has been haunting me for years...

I know that one of my parents would have had to sign the settlement agreement and have to know that the attorney wasn't or shouldn't have been the one that was the payee... Please help me????

Understanding the Role of Trauma in the Roots of Violent Behavior
Riverside Trauma Center's 5th Annual Conference Understanding the Role of Trauma  In the Roots of Violent Behavior Cosponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Suicide Prevention Program Early Bird Registration Deadline 9/18/15   Conference Description: Violence often has a visible and powerful impact on people. Less visible is the early trauma that may contribute to an ongoing cycle of violent acts. Conference presenters will explore the many ways in which early childhood and interpersonal trauma potentially shape future violent behavior, and discuss the clinical implications for mental health practitioners. Keynote Address:  "Can the Effects of Trauma Be Transmitted Intergenerationally?" Recent advances in molecular biology, genomics, and epigenomics, have now provided paradigms for understanding long-term effects of stress. This presentation will focus on intergenerational transmission of trauma as a particularly enduring effect of stress. Most of the research has been conducted on adult children of Holocaust survivors, but has now generalized to include children of other trauma survivors such as children born to pregnant women who survived the World Trade Center attack on 9/11. The research has evolved into one that explains the contribution of early environmental experiences — including parenting — on highly conserved molecular and genomic processes. These changes in and of themselves do not signify pathology, but provide a paradigm for understanding long-term effects of profoundly important events. The work has already led to a better understanding of biological risk factors for PTSD, and predictors of outcome in response to trauma. Rachel Yehuda, PhD, has focused on research in the fields of Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for over 25 years. She is currently a professor of Psychiatry as well as the Director of the Division of Traumatic Stress Studies at the lcahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She also serves as the Director of Mental Health at the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Her research on PTSD has included both human populations and animal models, neuroendocrinology, neuroimaging, genomic and molecular biological studies of trauma, experimental therapeutics, biomarkers, genetic and epigenetic heritability, gender differences, and suicide. She has authored over 300 highly-cited journal publications, chapters, and books in the field of traumatic stress and the neurobiology of PTSD. Additional Presentations: "Intimate Partner Violence: Behavioral, Social and Biological Implications" Mary Cheyne, PsyD, is a clinical and forensic psychologist who has more than 14 years of forensic experience in threat and violence risk assessment and management, divorce mediation, and divorce/custody evaluations. In addition to serving as Diplomate for the National Center for Crisis Management, Dr. Cheyne is a founding member of the New England chapter of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. Joanna Bridger, LICSW, Clinical Services Director of Riverside Trauma Center, will present on her work with trauma-informed care and trauma-informed approaches to understanding and responding to violence. There will also be a panel to discuss different perspectives on trauma and violence and how they are related. Cost: Register by 9/18/15 to pay the discount rate of $125 per person or $112 per person for groups of 4 or more. Data Science for Behavior Analysts - Irvine, CA
Data Science for Behavior Analysts Sponsored by The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Irvine Campus Join us on August 3rd, 2015, as we endeavor to break new ground in improving behavior by leading a one-of-a-kind workshop on data science. Offered to behavioral analysts, special education teachers, school psychologists, and parents of students with disabilities, we will teach you how to use data to improve the outcomes of all students.  The Chartlytics Workshop offers 7hrs of Type 2 BCBA credits Lead by Richard M. Kubina Jr., Ph.D., BCBAD, co-founder of Chartlytics, and Professor of Special Education at Pennsylvania State University, we will delve into the world of data analysis and how it can be applied to meaningfully improve current and future behaviors data analysis skills.  Identifying and describing behavior Today’s behavior analysts must observe, visually display, and determine the function of behavior. However, problems have started to creep into contemporary behavior analysis such as defining behavior using nouns (e.g., aggression, tantrum), improper verb forms (e.g., yelling, hitting), targets that lack movement (e.g., sitting still, being quiet), ambiguous verbs (e.g., understanding math facts, transition to social studies class), and social constructs (e.g., forgetting to use manners).  Our workshop helps participants learn by focusing more on how to “pinpoint” behavior. Chartlytics pinpoints have a movement cycle (action verbs plus noun) and context for where the behavior occurs, which make behavior analysts more effective when detecting behavior and communicating results to stake holders (e.g., parents, insurance companies, fellow behavior analysts).  Data recording Two major complications exist for counting and recording behavior, 1. using percent correct as the main decision making metric and 2. using interval records which do not reflect the fundamental properties. Research shows interval recording either under or overestimates the occurrence of behavior. Workshop participants will learn how to easily measure behavior with frequency, latency, and duration of these factors, as well as engage in data recording exercises to understand why frequency, latency, and duration serve as an eminently better data medium than interval records.  Graphical display Nonstandard linear graphs (NLG) pervade behavior analysis. Recent research show numerous problems associated with NLGs including improper scale proportions (leading to exaggerated or depressed trend and variability), scaling and labelling errors, and illegible data points. As a result, visual analysis is negatively affected. The present workshop will provide all attendees the skills to use the Standard Celeration Chart (SCC). The SCC not only rectifies all the previously mentioned problems, but it elevates the science of behavior by providing a true standard for judging the significance of behavioral change. Many other advantages will be discussed and demonstrated. About the Presenter Richard M. Kubina Jr., Ph.D., BCBA-D, taught special education in private schools specializing in post-acute brain trauma rehabilitation for three years. Currently, Dr. Kubina is the Professor of Special Education at Pennsylvania State University and teaches courses on methods for teaching reading, informal assessment, behavior analysis, and single case design. Dr. Kubina also conducts wide-ranging research in the area of Applied Behavior Analysis, Precision Teaching, and graphical display of data. He is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Doctoral level, and serves on a number of editorial boards for behavioral and special education journals.  Dr. Kubina is also the cofounder of Chartlytics, a company dedicated to making the world a better place through science and thoughtful, behavior engineering. FAQs  What are the objectives of the workshop? What will I learn? -State how pinpointing is used to make daily instruction/practice targets. -Compare interval recording and frequency data and state how frequency adds more precision and accuracy for observing behavior. -Count behaviors and calculate frequencies. Identify limitations nonstandard linear charts have for analyzing time-series data. -Chart behavioral data on a Standard Celeration Chart and identify the celeration value. -Develop a celeration-based analysis of problem behavior. -Discuss applications of Standard Celeration Charting for common acceleration and deceleration targets. -Identify how to manage replacement and prosocial behaviors in a structured manner.  Is there an abstract of the workshop I can share with colleagues?  Behavior analysts must observe, visually display, and determine the function of behavior. Workshop participants will learn how to “pinpoint” behavior. Pinpoints have a movement cycle (action verbs plus noun) and context for where the behavior occurs. Workshop participants will also learn how to easily measure behavior with frequency, latency, and duration. Participants will take part in data recording exercises and see how frequency, latency, and duration provide more information than interval records. The present workshop will demonstrate common problems with data display and subsequent data analysis in nonstandard line graphs. Learning how to use the Standard Celeration Chart for time series behavior has several advantages for the practicing behavior analyst, all of which will be discussed and practiced with workshop attendees. Participants will use the Standard Celeration Chart to chart behavioral data, employ basic data analysis (e.g., celeration, bounce or variability), and communicate data in a standard fashion with staff, clients, and parents. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? We are hosting the workshop at the: The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Irvine Campus University Center 4th Floor 4199 Campus Dr. Irvine, CA 92612 This building is in the shopping center, University Center. There will be a receptionist upon walking off the elevator to guide everyone with where to go.  Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? Email us at info@chartlytics.com  Is my registration/ticket transferrable? Yes, you may transfer your ticket to another person to go in your place. Can I update my registration information? Yes.  Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No.  What is the refund policy? Generally no, we encourage you to transfer your ticket if possible.  The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay? Yes.  Are you serving lunch?
