Remember the Explosion on Route 9 in 1970?

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

By Carol Ann Berry
Contributor

This story is about my father, Richard Barker formally of 120 North Ave, Natick Mass.

When my parents were married they lost the house they were renting to own off of Route 9 in Natick, Mass there was a furniture store they were the owners of the house that blew up.

At the time of the explosion; the company that was hired to put tress in around the house were digging a trench and ended up hitting a gas line and knew it and started running the opposite direction.

My mom Janice around 21 to 22 at the time was pregnant and very sensitive to the gas that she smelled and ended up going out the front door saw the contractor running and yelled, "hey, I smell gas"; he must have felt guilty or didn't realize that anyone was home and saw that she was pregnant and told her to "get out of the house!"

She was going to go down the basement to get our family cat and realized that there isn't enough time; she grabbed me wrapped me up in a blanket and ran and ended up jumping over the huge trench and almost fell backwards...

just as she made it; the house blew from the basement about 30 feet in the air and the only thing that stood up to the explosion were the front door and the mail box.

Settlement Stolen From Richard Barket & Charles Prombain, ESQ.

The reason I am writing this is because no one seemed to have any answers for me while I was growing up as to why the attorney for my parents took off with the settlement money and no one did nothing about it? That is inexcusable!

I found the attorney down in Palm Beach Florida; unfortunately his wife answered the phone and said that he passed away. How can this have happened and no one did anything about it? I have been trying to find answers and can't seem to get anywhere.

I know that the statute of limitations has run out but I would like to know if my dad had part in this, and MAYBE hid the monies from the settlement and over time spent his share. He left my mom with kids and no where to go and he never paid child support and didn't care about us. We lived in the High Street projects and Egmont Street projects because we had no where to go.

If anyone remembers the story or has information please comment on this story. Thank you for your consideration in assisting me in any way that you can. This has been haunting me for years...

I know that one of my parents would have had to sign the settlement agreement and have to know that the attorney wasn't or shouldn't have been the one that was the payee... Please help me????

Eddie Money Returns to The VERVE - Crowne Plaza Natick for an Encore Black Friday Performance
On Friday, November 28th, rocker and 80s hit-maker Eddie Money will treat fans to a post-Thanksgiving performance at The VERVE - Crowne Plaza Natick. Back by popular demand, Money will prove that Black Friday can bring much more excitement than big sales! This legendary American rock guitarist and singer-songwriter will bring concert-goers back to the 70s with well-known tracks like “Two Tickets to Paradise'' and breakthrough hit "Baby Hold On.'' Moving on to the 80s, Money will keep the crowd on their feet with favorites like "I Think I'm In Love'' and Grammy-nominated track “Take Me Home Tonight.” But Money has new material for the crowd too, including, “One More Soldier Coming Home,” a song he wrote for fallen soldiers of which 100% of the proceeds from the single go to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a non-profit organization that provides support to United States military personnel and their families. Currently, Money is touring all over the country, proving that despite decades in the world of rock n’ roll, Money can and is still keeping crowds “Shakin” to his music!

Natick High School Class of 1994 - 20 Year Reunion

Can You Believe It's Been 20 Years?

Wow, time sure flies! Twenty years ago we graduated Natick High School as the class of 1994! Now it is time to take a trip down memory lane, reconnect with old friends, and reminisce about high school.  The reunion committee has planned a special night!  The event will be catered by the Verve and include a delicious dinner and dessert buffet. We have also hired a DJ so we can all dance the night away!

Please purchase your ticket(s) early so we can prepare for the festivities.  The revenue from these tickets will directly support our reunion.  Please share this invitation with everyone that graduated NHS in 1994.  We are looking forward to a memorable night!

FAQ’s:

Q: How much do tickets cost?

A: The reunion ticket prices are $50 per person.  Please purchase your tickets early as prices will increase after September 30th ($55 from October 1-October 31, and $65 from November 1-November 15).

Q: Can I buy tickets at the door?

A: Due to the fact that the room, food, and DJ must be paid in advance, all tickets must be purchased by November 15.  TICKETS WILL NOT BE SOLD AT THE DOOR.

A: The committee has arranged for the Verve to cater the event which will include a delicous dinner and dessert buffet.  We will have a cash bar.

Q: Can I bring a guest?

A: Yes, in fact we encourage it. Just remember to RSVP for 2 and purchase two tickets.

Q: What is the attire?

A: Dress as you wish, but if it's helpful to have a guideline: somewhere between business casual & a little dressy.  It's not the prom, but we're also not painting the garage.

Q: What are the hotel accommodations?

A: The Crowne Plaza is offering a special rate for The class of 1994 attendees* for Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29th (subject to availability):

Q: Is it possible to tour the NEW Natick High School while I am in town?

A: Yes, NHS is working on arranging a tour for anyone interested.  This is separate from the reunion event, but we thought it would be fun to see the new NHS.  You can find more details about this on the Facebook Reunion Page.

Q: Is there going to be a group attending the Nov 27th football game together?

A: Yes, the details will be on the Facebook Reunion Page. This is separate from the reunion event, but we thought it would be fun to kick off the reunion weekend at the Homecoming game with friends and families!

Violet Jam presents: Eddie Money on Black Friday!

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, rocker/songwriter Eddie Money began his early years as a cop studying at the New York Police Academy before relocating to San Francisco and becoming a popular fixture around the Bay Area rock scene. On his 1977 eponymous Columbia Records debut, fans were introduced to Money’s unmistakable emotive voice and blue-collar rock ‘n’ roll appeal, with songs such as “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise” quickly rising on the charts and catapulting the hard-working musician to stardom. When MTV hit the American masses, Money ingeniously began creating humorous video narratives which in turn found huge successes for “Shakin’” and “Think I’m in Love.” Five albums later in 1986, he released the smash album Can’t Hold Back which featured two of Money’s best known classics, “Take Me Home Tonight” (feat. Ronnie Spector) and “I Wanna Go Back.” 1988’s Nothing to Lose included the driving single “Walk on Water,” and from there the rocker continued to release several impressive hit albums during the 1990s and into the 2000s. With a long and incredible career of platinum sales and Top 40 hits, Eddie Money’s music continues to transcend generational gaps and shape the music of today.

Violet Jam is the place to be seen! This Pop & Roll Cocktail Party features creative cocktails and national music acts in the chic new VERVE - Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Become acquainted and adept with the most classic and important of chef's tools, and your time in the kitchen will be transformed. Hone basic knife skills and practice the fundamental cuts for vegetables—mince, dice, brunoise, bâtonnet and julienne—and acquire a few advanced techniques, too. Plus, learn how to select a knife that fits your needs, and gain tips for keeping all of your knives maintained and sharp.
